Week 1: Day 4
We are going to be having weekly seminars within the program that are supposed to help us understand research as well as leading us through our own projects. This week Professor Evan went over what research was as well as the process surrounding it. I had an understanding of what research was prior to this (which was a study where you collect research or order to produce a result) but not how everything came together as I have never done research. They went over the entire process and how essentially it loops back to determining a problem. I am afraid that my research may not have enough material by the end of the summer. I feel as though there should be more time taken within research rather than just ten weeks. With that said, in the talk Professor Evan stated that there is never a perfect study within research; which made me feel better as I feel as though I need all of my questions answered and I am not too confident in my ability to get a fully completed project. But also with research, I know that other questions come about while you are conducting your research that can lead back to the whole process. So essentially your research is never really complete; this is helping me think about the process and how I do not need to think about every aspect.
We still have not made contact with Vicky which has me quite worried. I am still lost in the realm of what I am needing to do for my research. I expected for there to be more for me to do and explore considering that this was the first week which has me disappointed. With that being said, I believe that I have finally decided what project I am going to choose; which is the subjective cybersickness assessment. From my understanding, cybersickness is the same as motion sickness except you are in a VR environment. With this project, I would be running participants and collecting data which would be great as that is part of the human interaction that I was wanting from this program.
