Week 3: Post 1

 What is your supervisor like and what were your first impressions? 

    Today we were able to meet with Vicky for the first time in person. She took my lab partner and I out for lunch just so we could all talk and get to know one another.  I felt quite relived being able to speak with her and just knowing that she will be able to actually guide us along in our research.     

    My overall impression of her is that she is an extremely intelligent woman who is passionate about what she does. We discussed each others' research topics more in depth which has helped us in some way. She speaks in a lot of detail which was a little overwhelming when talking about research because some of what she discussed I had never heard or read about before. She is very intrigued by the topic that I will be working on which is biophilic virtual environments. However I feel as though there still isn't a specific topic that she wants to hone in on. She discussed numerous options that we could work with such as the mystery behind why people are fascinated by virtual nature environments, the affect of accuracy of those environments, and the differences between photorealistic and non-photorealistic environments. I'm not sure if this helped or hurt my perspective about the research that I will be conducting though. It felt immense that there were many questions to be asked with this research as it hasn't been fully researched. I guess I am left to do more research on my own to figure out what all has and has not been done in this field and come up with a few of my own questions. 

    Overall, I feel as though I will be able to communicate with Vicky quite easily and be able to ask questions that I need answered. I am also hoping that she points me to a specific area within the next few days so I can start rendering the environments that she would like for me to create.
