Week 9: Post 2

I finally got the controllers for my active movement to work. It took a lot longer than I had hoped for; and it's not exactly how I wanted the movement to work. I wanted the user to be able to go left and right and to be able to move forward. I only got the controller to move forward and the user point the headset in the direction that they want to go. I feel as if this may cause the user to get cybersick, and I know that this will affect my data.

We also finally got IRB approval, but I don't think that I am exactly ready to start fully testing. Vicki seems to be very adamant on doing real testing but I'm personally not ready to make that step. I'm still not sure if my questionnaires that I made are up to par or if they will get the correct data that we need. Another reason that I don't want to test so soon is because everything is still not complete. I haven't been able to get the Empatica wristband to work, and it seems that no one in my lab or other labs have had actual experience working with one before. That data is the key component that we have to ensure that the environments are having the correct restorativeness effects, and without it our hypothesis my be weak.

I also still haven't been able to get my code to compile to create the passive movement. I thought that we had already resolved this issue last week, but it seems that I did something to mess it up. I'm going to try to work on it tomorrow and hope that it doesn't throw any issues. I have the code for it already for the most part, it's just getting C++ to compile correctly so I can fully implement it.

I'm just feeling very pressured and rushed by Vicki to get participants ran. And it doesn't really make sense considering that she can't even help me with some of the things that I am struggling with. I asked her if she knew how to implement the passive movement, which consists of moving the camera through the environment, and she didn't know how to. If she doesn't know how to do it, how am I supposed to know? I'm just going to continue to work and get as much done as I can. I may also work this weekend to get everything set so I can pilot test next week.
