Week 10: Post 1

I have had a very hectic week so far. I have started to run participants in my study. It is harder and more work than I had imagined. I have to keep track of all the participants, make sure the questionnaires are in the right order and have everything to successfully run the experiment. I have messed up a couple of the experiments so those are just throw-away ones. I still don't necessarily feel like my study is all the way complete. It just feels like it is missing something. I'm sure what it is but it's probably the way that I am running people though because it doesn't feel very professional. But I am having fun running people and seeing how they react to the environments that I have made.

Vicki also changed the way that we are running participants through the environments. As of right now, I have coded the program so that I can record the x, y, and z coordinates of the player as they move through the environment. With these coordinates, I can essentially play it so that the camera moves to each of these coordinates. I originally thought that for the passive environment, where you are dragged through it, we were going to have a constant playback of movement. Therefore, I would set the location myself and everyone would go through the same movement. Now she wants me to record the participants who do active movement and then make those coordinates the passive movement. So for example, for the first trial Participant 1 would do Environment A with Active, and then in the second trial Participant 1 would do Environment B with Passive(from Participant 2's Active). Participant 2 would do Environment B with Passive(from Participant 1's Active) and then do Environment A with Active.

This was sort of confusing for me to figure out at first but now I understand it. I'm really not sure how this really affects the study overall though and I'm afraid that I may mix some of the movements as more participants are run through them. With this being said I have 8 more people that I am going to run through the environments and I'm hoping to get it completed by Friday.
